Maine Mendoza's Wedding Fragrance: Baccarat Rouge 540

Jun 02, 2023Jun 02, 2023

Fragrances do more than just make you smell good—they have the power to evoke memories and emotions, too. And what better way to encapsulate a day as important as your wedding than through a fragrance?

Maine Mendoza tied the knot with former actor Arjo Atayde in Baguio City last July 28, 2023. In an exclusive interview with Preview, the newlywed actress revealed her fragrance of choice, and it happens to be a favorite among perfume enthusiasts!

If you guessed Maison Francis Kurkdjian’s Baccarat Rouge 540, then you’re right! Priced at exactly P30,800 for a 200ml bottle, Baccarat Rouge 540 is one of the most popular fragrances in the world of perfumery. It’s a unisex amber floral scent, with top notes of saffron and jasmine. The perfume also holds a combination of amberwood and ambergris and base notes of fir resin and cedar, all encased in the most luxurious gold-tinted bottle. The fragrance was launched in 2015, as a result of Francis’ encounter with the crystal manufacturer Baccarat.

“I've been using it for a while now, and I have consistently received compliments on it. In addition to loving its scent, I really appreciate how long it lingers," said Maine.

When asked why she chose it for her wedding she replied, saying, "It was the perfect perfume for my wedding because I wanted to emit a pleasant fragrance while giving hugs to our guests. As the bride, I wanted to smell great throughout the wedding festivities and [Maison Francis Kurkdjian’s Baccarat Rouge 540] proved to be the ideal choice."

The Baccarat Rouge 540 also comes in a smaller 75ml bottle that costs P15,800 and a mini 35ml bottle priced at P9950.

Contrary to popular belief, it isn’t all about the brand’s name. To make a scent as unique as Baccarat Rouge 540, it also takes unique ingredients. Ambergris, which lies at the heart of the scent, is one of the rarest and most highly-valued ingredient in perfumery, and is likely the reason behind the perfume’s exorbitant price. Not to mention, it also takes a high level of expertise that only someone like renowned French perfumer Francis Kurkdjian has reached to blend and balance an ingredient as unique as this.
